This article describes how to connect and run Discovery with our Google Assistant Companion, kloee for SC (kloee is the cloud-based platform that powers SimpleCommands), with SimpleCommands. If you have questions on how to use this skill after it's enabled, please see our guide here.
How do I enable the Google Assistant Companion?
- Open the Google Home app
- Press '+ Add',
- Select 'Set up device'
- Underneath 'Works with Google', press 'Have something already set up?'
- Search 'kloee for SC'
- Enter your SimpleCommands credentials and viola! You can now control your SimpleCommands Items, Routines and Groups through Google Home.
And that's it! You're now ready to use Google Assistant to control your SimpleCommands devices!
Note:
kloee is the cloud-based platform that powers SimpleCommands, which is why we have kloee in the name of our skill.
What can I do with Google Assistant on SimpleCommands?
You can control your Items, Favorites, and Groups via Google Assistant, which you can select in the Companions menu.
What Types of Devices will be work with Google Assistant?
Currently, the following types of devices can be discovered, and work, with Google Assistant.
- Lights
- Switches
- Plugs
- Thermostats
- Doors/Locks
As Google Assistant adds support for more devices types we will work to add support for these as well.
Keeping in Sync
Whenever you adjust your settings for the skill be sure to re-run Discovery on your Google Assistant device. Simply say “Hey Google, discover devices,” visit the Smart Home section of the Google Home app, or via the Google Home website on your browser.
Note:
Google Assistant will not automatically forget your devices and groups that you remove from SimpleCommands. They will appear as “offline” until you remove them manually in the Google Home App or from the Google Home website.
What are SimpleNames?
A SimpleName is effectively an optional alias for an Item. We created SimpleNames with Google Assistant in mind. Oftentimes your Items will have long names that are difficult to remember or say or difficult for Google Assistant to understand. SimpleNames are a way to enter a more “simple” name to your device without losing its original name. Follow these steps to create/edit an Item's SimpleName. The next time you Discover your Devices in Google Home, this SimpleName will be used instead of the longer name.
For any additional questions please visit our Knowledge Base, or contact us here. We'll get back to you as quickly as we can! To get started, go to the App Store or Google Play store and download SimpleCommands!
