What are Routines?

Routines 101:

Routines are groups of customizable, pre-set commands. They allow you to run multiple commands at once with a single tap. Routines allow SimpleCommands to work with your everyday smart home needs as quickly as easily as possible!

Routines can be run manually by pressing them in the Routines menu, or you can trigger them to go off based on three different criteria: time, your location, and other actions in your smart home. This article will go through how to make a Routine and add different triggers and actions.

How to create a Routine:

1. Creating a Routine is so simple! Press the "+" button in the Routines tab and name your Routine. Then give your Routine a name.

2. Add however many Actions as you want. Actions are the things that will happen when the Routine is executed. Combine actions no matter what the device type and brand are!

3. The last part of a Routine is the trigger. These come in three different varieties: Schedule, Item Event, and Location. Schedule triggers are based on the time of the day and day of the week, Item Event triggers are based off the actions of other smart devices, and Location triggers are based off of your location. If you don't want to have one of these triggers you can always run a Routine manually by pressing it in the Routines menu.

Here are three different options:

4. Press "Done" and you're finished! You've just created a Routine for your SimpleCommands account.

  • Followed these instructions step by step and nothing. Geo tag pops up sometimes. Door will not open when I arrive home.

  • Well, it's now 11/08/20 and Geo fencing is still no worky! Ring Alarm triggers will take 20min to run and usually never work!
