Hit a hitch while using SimpleCommands ("SC")? Read on and hopefully this article will help you out of your little snafu.
In order to use SC you will need one of the available Companions (iOS, Android, online dashboard, Apple Smart Watch, Slack, or SMS). The phone version of the app allows you to link your SimpleCommands account to your watch, add Connections, and create new Groups/Favorites. The watch version of the app allows you to actually execute commands to your Items, i.e. turn on your smart lights, arm your home's alarm, etc. Through SimpleCommands your phone functions as the organizer to all of your digital stuff, while your watch acts as your digital assistant that carries out all of your requests.
This separation of functionalities begs the question, why not let you do both the organizational and actionable functionalities on both the watch and the phone? The simple answer: simplicity. We are called SimpleCommands after all. Your watch is always on your wrist and has an interface that is easy to navigate, which makes it perfect for executing commands whenever and wherever you want. At the same time your phone's larger screen allows for SC to display more information without it being overwhelming. Each device is perfectly suited for its assigned function, making its use quick and simple.
Here's a step-by-step walkthrough of how to execute a command with SimpleCommands:
- Go to the Items tab and select an Item from one of the tabs on your home page which cause a pop-up with all of the relevant commands to appear (Note: you must have at least one active Connection for the remaining steps to work).
- Choose the command you wish to run.
- After you selected your command/argument, voila! You are done. SimpleCommands will do whatever it is you asked and response when appropriate.
Go ahead and try the above steps with any of your Connections. Once you get the hang of it you can move on to more advanced use-cases like Groups, Favorites, and Routines/Triggers.
